She has her life changed after a well-documented battle with alcohol addiction.
Now, Hollyoaks star Davinia Taylor, 43, has opened up about her mental health struggles, motherhood, and her new healthy lifestyle.
Speaking to The Sun after the release of her new book, It’s Not a Diet, Davinia said she wished her mother, who died in 2013, could see the woman she has become.

She added: ‘For her to see me now as a mother – happy, settled and not needing the finery to support my ego – she would be really proud.’
At one point in her life, Davinia faced a custody battle and committed suicide, however, she has been sober for 12 years now, saying that her old self would not recognize the woman she is today.
She said that her ‘old self’ would dislike who she is now and asked her to ‘bore it off’.
In interviews, Davinia describes herself as a normal mom who doesn’t live the Hollywood lifestyle — and hates yoga.

She revealed that she has learned to accept that it is okay for her to be angry and make mistakes, as long as she recovers from the mood dip.
Explaining why her younger years were so wild, Davinia said she has a higher dopamine drive, meaning the impulse to do things to feel alive was stronger.
She said it’s a classic symptom of ADHD, but it’s not as widely diagnosed in women as it is in men.
“The girl with ADHD would be called ‘Dolly Daydream,’ and that was me,” she said. ‘I’m hoping over the next few years that a lot of women my age will realize they can get help for this now – it’s not too late now.’
In 2007, Davinia gave birth to her first child, Grey, and began suffering from postpartum depression, which she tried to work her way out of.

She said that doctors gave her stronger medication for bipolar disorder, which she was on for five years and although she was no longer suicidal, she said she started to bleed every day.
Reflecting back on Grey’s birth, Davinia said she now learned she was suffering from a crash of her helpful hormones due to IVF – but doctors wrote it off as the ‘baby blues’.
She now hopes that her struggle can encourage more women to talk about the issue and push for hormone replacement therapy to help them.
During her divorce from ex-husband Dave Gardner in 2009, her mother sent her to rehab in South Africa to recover from her alcohol addiction, and Davinia said she thinks that without her mother’s help, she would no longer be here. Won’t happen.
‘As long as I was out on the other side of the divorce, I was beyond any sabbatical. It was a blessing in disguise, because it put me in fight mode, and sometimes it’s my comfort zone. I had to be razor-sharp and although it wasn’t necessarily enjoyable, it gave me focus.

After quitting alcohol, Davinia said she turned to sugary and unhealthy foods because she didn’t realize the impact they could have on her health.
She said that due to her poor diet, she felt joint pain, which made her forget things and her general mood was also affected.
To combat this, Davinia said she started reading Dietetics and became a happier person and better woman to her friends and family.
However, she also said that she hasn’t been obsessed with her health, even joking that she had fry-ups recently.

Davinia’s comments seemed nothing short of sensational as she showcased her incredible physique in a series of infrared sauna snaps shared earlier this month.
The former soap star went topless in pictures as she did a niacin detox protocol, which she described as ‘so effective’.
Niacin is a form of vitamin B and is used in high doses combined with sauna heat to rid the body of toxins and chemicals.
Davinia covered her chest with her hands in the snaps, while also displaying her toned pins resting them against the wall.
Along with the post, the Hollyoaks star wrote: ‘So when you use a great infrared sauna they often come with different lighting options so you can be specific with your treatment.
‘Oh my god I wish I had it at home anyway!!! I did a niacin protocol here, I went through Spectrum – feeling great now.
‘Niacin is vitamin B3 and causes the skin to flush which then helps in detox. It is so effective that it is used by firefighters after chemical fires.’
