On June 1, Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial government approved the purchase of the ancestral home of Bollywood stalwarts Raj Kapoor and Dilip Kumar to convert them into museums. The price of the houses was fixed after the report of the Department of Communications and Construction. Dilip Kumar’s ancestral mansion costs Rs. 80,56,000 and the cost of Raj Kapoor’s house is Rs. 1,50,00,000.
Earlier, the owner of Dilip Kumar’s house had demanded Rs 25 crore, while the owner of Raj Kapoor’s house had demanded Rs 200 crore. Haji Lal Muhammad, the owner of Dilip Kumar’s ancestral property, acquired this property in 2005 for Rs. 51 lakhs after completing all the legal formalities. He had said that it is injustice to the government to pay the price of the Prophet. 80.56 lakh after 16 years.
Raj Kapoor’s ancestral home known as Kapoor Haveli is located in Qissa Khwani Bazaar and was built between 1918 and 1922. Raj Kapoor was born in Bhavan. Meanwhile, veteran actor Dilip Kumar’s more than 100 years old ancestral home is also located in the same locality. The house was declared a national heritage in 2014.
