Two sheep were attacked by a dog in North Yorkshire, leaving one dead and one seriously injured, police said.
The sheep were part of a small flock attacked overnight in Lower Dunsforth, Aldborough, on Sunday.
Officers said people should remember it is an offense to allow a dog to disturb sheep, and even if the sheep was not caught, it could be seriously injured.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the police.
A police spokesman said: “If you live in or near an agricultural area, you must ensure that your dog cannot escape from your property, as it could find its way onto land containing sheep.
“It’s important that you keep your dog on a lead around the sheep, even though you can usually rely on it to come calling.”
