Former President Donald Trump have finally commented on the scandal with Republican North Carolina gubernatorial candidate Mark Robinsonthe state’s current lieutenant governor.
Controversy erupted last week after reports emerged claiming Robinson made a series of inflammatory posts on an adult website, including describing himself as a “black Nazi”, praising Adolf Hitler’s Nazi manifesto My struggle and a fond memory of “peeping” on women in bathrooms.
Trump, who endorsed Robinson and hailed him as “Martin Luther King on steroids,” has been conspicuously silent on the scandal, perhaps because North Carolina is a key swing state that could decide a tight race in this year’s presidential election.
The former president finally weighed in Thursday, telling a reporter at Trump Tower in New York when asked if he planned to withdraw his support for Robinson: “Um, I don’t know the situation.”
Several of Robinson’s top staff have resigned after the revelations, although the lieutenant governor has repeatedly denied the comments, dismissing the reports as “ugly tabloid lies.”
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
