Dreamworks announced this week that they have one How to train your dragon spin-off series this year on Hulu and Peacock. The show is titled Dragons: The Nine Kingdoms, and it is set in the present day. Jeremy Shada (Adventure time, Julie and the Phantoms) has been hired to cast a lead character in the series, which will be executive produced and showrun by John Tellegen. Executive producers in the series include Chuck Asten and Henry Gilroy, with Ben Sleven as the supervising producer.

In the Dragons: The Nine Kingdomsset 1,300 years after the events of How To Train Your Dragon, dragons are now just a legend for the modern world. When a geological anomaly opens a huge, mile-deep cleft in the earth’s surface, scientists from around the world gather at a new research facility to study the mysterious phenomenon. Soon a group of false children brought to the site by their parents discover the truth about dragons and where they hid – a secret they must keep to themselves to protect what they have discovered.
