SAN JOSE – A driver struck and killed a pedestrian Tuesday afternoon in San Jose, according to authorities.
The fatal collision happened around 4:20 p.m. at Camden and Leigh avenues, the San Jose Police Department said in a posts on social media.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office will release the pedestrian’s identity once it has been confirmed and their next of kin have been notified.
The death marked the city’s 30th traffic fatality of the year. At this time last year, San Jose had recorded 29 road deaths.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said.
At 6:15 p.m., the intersection was closed in all directions. Police asked the public to avoid the area.
