LOS ALTOS – An investigation is underway into an attack that left an 89-year-old man seriously injured Monday in Los Altos.
Officers found the man unconscious around 3:25 p.m. next to the railroad tracks near the Foothill Expressway and Interstate 280, the Los Altos Police Department said in a news release.
The man — identified as a Los Altos resident — was taken to a trauma center with life-threatening head injuries, police said. He was listed in stable condition on Tuesday.
“Preliminary findings indicate that the injuries were the result of a blow to the head,” police said.
A person of interest was arrested and questioned, police said, adding that the man and the person of interest were acquaintances.
The attack happened sometime in the late morning or early afternoon, according to police, who asked area residents to check their security camera footage for anything out of the ordinary.
