A family were rescued after becoming stranded on a Co Down island on Saturday morning.
Newcastle Coastguard received reports that a group of people had become stranded on Gunn’s Island off the shore of Ballyhornan Beach and were in need of assistance.
In a post on the Newcastle Coastguard’s Facebook page, they reported that a group consisting of two adults, four teenagers and two young children had been cut off on the island by the rising tide just before 11am this morning.
Two Coastguards from Portaferry were sent across to Gunn’s Island to attend to the group pending the arrival of Portaferry lifeboat where the eight people were then taken from the island back to Ballyhornan beach.
The incident was co-ordinated by Belfast Coastguard Operations Centre.
