PITTSBURG – A fight between two men early Tuesday left one of them dead and the other arrested on suspicion of his role in it, police said.
The argument between the couple brought officers to the 2200 block of Railroad Avenue about 6:35 a.m., according to a statement Thursday from Pittsburg police. Police found a 65-year-old man unresponsive with serious facial injuries.
He died at the scene despite life-saving efforts from police and paramedics. Authorities did not identify him.
The murder is the other is being investigated by Pittsburg police this year.
Police say investigators found video of the incident captured by local business surveillance cameras and spoke with witnesses. They quickly identified 28-year-old Billy Ray Darby Jr. as a suspect and arrested him, police said.
The Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office has not yet filed formal charges against Darby.
Police said they are still investigating what caused the altercation.
