Firefighters battled a wildfire in Sonoma County on Sunday but said they were making progress against the rapidly expanding flames.
The Cougar Fire had consumed 40 acres by 2:23 p.m. Sunday, the state Division of Forestry and Fire Protection, or CAL FIRE, reported Sunday.
No structures were reported to be threatened. No injuries were reported.
“The progress of the fire was reported to be stopped at 2:20 p.m.,” Cal Fire said in a post on its website.
At 2 p.m. the fire amounted to approximately 15 acres. At 2:20 p.m., the fire had reached 40 hectares.
The fire had not yet been extinguished as of 2:30 p.m., according to Cal Fire updates.
The fire was located near Lakeville Highway just south of Cougar Mountain Road in Sears Point, Cal Fire reported.
State and local emergency agencies sent 15 fire engines, two helicopters, two bulldozers and two hand crews to fight the blaze, Cal Fire reported.
Marin County Fire, Petaluma Fire, Schell-Vista Fire, Gold Ridge Fire, Rancho Adobe Fire, Sonoma Valley Fire District and the US Coast Guard partnered with CAL FIRE in the response.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
At one point, officials closed the intersection of State Route 37 and Lakeville Highway.
