The staff at the observatory were “all hands on deck” for the wintry weather.
Winter weather is already here for at least one place in New England.
Mount Washington Observatory said On Monday, it officially recorded its first measurable snowfall of the season – 0.1” – the result of nearly 36 hours of sub-freezing temperatures at the summit.
The observatory said the weather required “all hands on deck” as staff worked to ensure the instruments stayed warm enough to continue working through the winter.
Staff posted photos of the scene atop the mountain on the observatory’s social media pages.
“Getting this close to or below freezing this time of year is very normal,” Jay Broccolo, director of weather operations for the observatory, told Boston Globe.
Last year, the first measurable snowfall was observed on the New Hampshire mountain in beginning of Octoberwhile the previous year saw the accumulation mid-September.
