Dashcam images show one Florida man beat another driver after receiving a compliment for his Dodge Challenger. It’s a weird way to thank someone for saying something nice, but Florida is a weird place and we’ve come to expect extraordinary things from that.
A random piece of metal flies off a trailer and into a man’s windshield.
Polk County Sheriff’s Office shared dashcam videos on social media to help bring in the suspect, 53-year-old John Sturgeon, after a warrant was issued for his arrest. The operation must have been effective because law enforcement gave an update later, saying Sturgeon turned herself in.
According to the sheriff’s office, the incident in question occurred on the evening of September 1st. The victim said he waved at Sturgeon while saying something about how much he liked the Dodge Challenger when the suspect approached stopped in the middle of the road before a stop sign.
Sturgeon then marched from his Mopar to the victim’s car, grabbed the man’s hands and then punched the guy in the face. You can hear the victim respond that he was just saying how much he liked Sturgeon’s Challenger.
Is this how people in Florida react when you say you like their ride? Or is this just a guy with some sort of anger control issue that’s spinning out of control? Given the suspect’s build, we expect some to say this was a road rage incident, but there is no way to confirm or deny that allegation.
Instead, we are just baffled as to why Sturgeon reacted the way she did. Maybe he thought the guy was saying “nice car” in a mocking way? Maybe the victim made a rude gesture and we don’t have that on video?
This case is now in the court system, so Sturgeon will either cut a deal with a prosecutor or have her day in court. Just no one tell him they like his Dodge!
