CHICAGO (AP) — Javier Baez lined up a two-run homer, Anthony Rizzo scored two doubles between three hits and the Chicago Cubs beat the San Diego Padres on Wednesday for their third straight win and ninth in 10 games. beat -1.

Badge’s shot to the left-field bleachers was his 14th homer and third in three games, and it capped the seventh of the three runs that allowed Chicago to pull it off. Rizzo scored two runs in the fifth to level 1-1 with his first double and posted a second-straight multihit game after missing the last six from the back tightrope.

The Cubs are looking more and more like a deep, aggressively talented team that ranks first in the NL Central.

Rizzo doesn’t want his club to outdo itself.

“I don’t think we’ve really proved anything. It’s June 2,” Rizzo said. “We’ve proved to each other how much fun we’re having and how good we are, but that’s four more months.”

Manager David Ross is promoted. They discharged stars Kris Bryant and Wilson Contreras on Wednesday, but their lineup continued to produce.

“We had a good homestand,” Ross said of the 5-1 stretch. “People are playing really well. The past few weeks have shown us how important it is to have great depth and people coming into our organization. “

The Cubs took home the Padres eight times in sets of three games at Wrigley Field for the first time since May 2012. San Diego lost its fourth straight, its longest skid since last August.

The Padres also injured Kim Ha-seong and Tommy Pham after colliding with a fly ball in the fourth inning. Manager Jayce Tingler said Kim may have been on a day-to-day basis, but Pham’s condition could be more serious.

“It’s so scary when you see two people going full speed and bumping into each other,” Tingler said.

Tingler said Kim was tested under concussion protocol, “doing well” and does not appear to have sustained any injuries.

Pham suffered a jaw injury and needed stitches. He will have to undergo a CT scan to check for structural damage.

“He collided very well,” Tingler said. “His jaw might be weird.”

Rizzo took a pitch from Tim Hill to left-center, beyond the gloves of diving center fielder Jurikson Proffer, to put Chicago 3–1 in the fifth.

Hill, a lefty, had entered to face Rizzo, who was hit with a left hand. He replaced Pierce Johnson (1-2), who was charged with defeat.

“Lefty on lefty, it was a huge knock to give us the lead,” Ross said.

Edbert Aljole (4-4) conceded one run on three hits and scored seven runs in five innings to seal the win. The four Cubs followed with four scoreless innings.

Kim drives at the Padres Run. He started at shortstop in place of injured slugger Fernando Tatis Jr.

Moments before the collision between Kim and Pham, the Cubs tied it on 1 when Rizzo first ran home on an error from Eric Hosmer. Chicago then loaded the base with an out on Eric Sogard’s bloop single.

PJ Higgins hit a high pop high to the short left, where Pham and Kim ran into each other. The ball and both the players fell on the grass.

Kim popped up and threw Manny Machado in third place for a force on Rafael Ortega. Machado sent it to Jake Cronenworth in second for a force on Sogard and an inning-ending double-play.
