The popular Oatley Como walkway, which is planned to be upgraded, was one of the topics discussed at this week’s Georges River Council meeting.

In October this year, the council, which is carrying out on-site repairs funded by Transport for NSW, said it will begin surveys and geotechnical studies for a joint road this month.

Just before the bridge on the Oatley side of the gorge, the gorge was closed while the paved road was being rebuilt last month. Tree root damage was a concern for hikers and cyclists at the time.

The plan is to develop short- and long-term options for upgrading the shared path.

A timeline for the completion of the design work will be established after the research work is completed and the results are known.

Another report will explore the cost of providing light across the Como railway bridge and the proposed new walkway.
