An Apalachee High School tenth-grader changed his mind about going to the bathroom moments before shots rang out in the hallway — saying he would “probably be dead right now” if he had gone.
Four people were killed and nine others were injured when a alleged gunmanrookie Colt Gray, opened fire on the school in northeast Georgial on Wednesday morning.
“I know my teacher. He got shot. I know one of my friend’s friends got shot in the leg,” says the 10th grader told 11Alive.
“I don’t know everybody, but I know some people who were shot.”
The boy — who was not named by the outlet — decided not to go to the bathroom shortly before the shooting.
“I thought about going to the bathroom right before it happened. And I’m so glad I didn’t because I’d probably be dead right now if I did,” he said.
Just seconds later, the student heard gunshots nearby.
“I heard shots and then my teacher told us to go into the corner. I heard screams and cops like “Get down!” he said of the terrifying scene.
Colt Gray surrendered to officers at the scene and was arrested, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
He allegedly used an AR-15 weapon.
