Daniel Jones couldn’t escape the boos, even as he tried to leave MetLife Stadium on Sunday.
Fans waited for Jones at the player’s entrance after season opener 28-6 loss to Vikings and booed and heckled him and called him “Danny Pennies.”
The not-so-kind comments capped a day for Jones where he was booed heavily inside the stadium for his rough performance in the loss.
In a video posted on social media, a fan could be heard shouting at Jones, “I need a million”
Jones, whose nickname is “Danny Dimes,” didn’t seem to react to the booing as it appeared other fans were heckling the Giants quarterback as well.
A set of fans were also seen trying to burn his Daniel Jones jersey in the MetLife parking lot in a video posted on social media.
Jones, who signed a four-year, $160 million contract with the Giants in 2023, never seemed to react to the jeers as he walked through a walkway that was fenced off by metal barricades and flanked by several stadium security guards.
During the game, fans did not hold back their displeasure with Jones and the Giants’ performance in the first game of the season.
The QB didn’t perform nearly as well as the Giants needed, finishing 22 of 42 for 186 yards and two interceptions.
Jones didn’t seem to take the booing to heart when he spoke to reporters inside the Giants locker room.
“I think it’s our job to give them something to cheer for and to play well, to execute,” Jones said. “We take it seriously. They expect us to play well; we expect to play well. We have to.”
Jones is under scrutiny after the Giants didn’t draft a quarterback during the draft and appeared poised to enter the season with the team’s 2019 first-round pick at the helm.
The Giants are coming off a 2023 season where they failed to make the playoffs and finished the year with a 6-11 record.
