A 15-year-old girl was shot in the buttocks when gunfire erupted in a Bronx neighborhood Monday night, police said.
The teenage girl was hit around 6:45 p.m. near 183rd Street and Crotona Avenue in the Belmont section of the borough just two blocks from the Bronx Zoo, police said.
She was taken to Jacobi Hospital in stable condition, authorities said.
The victim is not believed to have been the intended target, according to police sources.
The victim’s relative told The Post that her loved one was standing with a group of teenagers when the shooting began.
A witness told The Post she was sleeping when she heard gunfire and feared a stray bullet might hit her.
“It was loud like regular shots,” the woman said.
“It’s not safe,” she added.
Police tape blocked off part of a sidewalk that was under scaffolding as more than a dozen officers and investigators worked the scene.
According to the police, no arrests have been made as the investigation is ongoing.
