General Motors is recalling 21,469 electric SUVs because the vehicles’ anti-lock braking system, or ABS, can activate unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Tuesday.
The recall involves GM’s 2023-2024 Cadillac Lyriq all-wheel drive models, the automatic safety controller stated. GM plans to fix the problem with an over-the-air update or by a dealer, at no charge, NHTSA added.
NHTSA had begun a preliminary review of over 3,000 Cadillac Lyriq electric vehicles due to claims related to loss of brake assist. ABS prevents the wheels from locking and skidding when the brakes are applied, reducing the risk of an accident.
The automaker expects to send notices to owners of the vehicles on September 23, 2024.
