GM’s Chinese joint venture develops its own car chips

BEIJING — One of General Motors’ Chinese joint ventures said Wednesday it is developing auto chips and aims to increase the use of locally sourced chips over the next five years.

based in Liuzhou SGMWGM’s partners SAIC Motor Corp. and his venture with Guangxi Automobile Group, he said at an industry conference that he has been developing his own automated computing chips since 2018.

SGMW did not say whether it was just designing chips or participating in chip manufacturing, but said it would increase cooperation with Chinese manufacturers to improve the quality and economy of its chips.
