Sony has announced that the sequel to 2018 God of war It has been delayed to 2022 and the much awaited game will be released on both PS5 and PS4.
PlayStation Studio chief Hermann Hulst announced the news playstation.blog in a Q&A where he discussed what’s next for PlayStation Studio.
While he shared that Horizon Forbidden West is still on track to release this holiday season, God of War debuted “a little later”, so decided to push the game to 2022 to make sure It was said to be the “wonderful god of war”. We all want to play.”
“So we have, currently, two very big, very narrative-driven games in development: Horizon Forbidden West and Next God of War. And for both of them, they are clearly influenced by performance capture and access to talent, Hulst said. “As for Horizon, we think we’re on track to release this holiday season. But it’s not certain yet, and we’re working hard to confirm it as soon as we can.
“And for God of War, the project started a little later. So we’ve decided to push that game to next year, to make sure that Santa Monica Studios can deliver the wonderful God of War that we want.” Everyone wants to play with these things, something has to give. It may not be the quality of our title, and it certainly won’t be the health or well-being of our amazing team.”
Santa Monica Studio shared a similar message on Twitter, thanking fans for “how much love our community has shown us” The teaser of Next God of War aired last year. However, it wanted to deliver an incredible experience without sacrificing the safety and well-being of the team, and the delay was the best option to accomplish both.
“We remain focused on delivering a top-quality game while maintaining the safety and well-being of our team, creative partners and families. With this in mind, we have decided to move our release window to 2022. ” Santa Monica Studio wrote.
Next God of War will be available to 110 million+ PS4 owners
Hulst continued by stating that Sony didn’t spare over 110 million PS4 owners, but he promised that it was still too important to be a “showpiece for the PS5.”
“You can’t build a community of over 110 million PS4 owners and then just walk away from it, right? I think that would be bad news for PS4 fans, and clearly not very good business. Hulst said. Where it makes sense to develop a title for both PS4 and PS5 — Horizon Forbidden West, God of War’s next, for the GT7 — we’ll continue to see it. And if PS4 owners want to play that game, they can. If they want to keep up with the PS5 version, that game will be for them.
“That being said, it’s also very important for the PS5 to be a showpiece, hence the development of Returnal and Ratchet that is exclusive to the PS5.”
