Greater Manchester pub’s beer garden named as one of best in England

A Greater Manchester pub has been named among the best beer gardens in England.

Big 7 Travel has revealed its top 25 beer gardens in the country, ranking them based on editorial opinions and experiences.

Now that the region’s bars and restaurants are able to operate outdoors for the foreseeable future after lockdown restrictions eased this week, there’s no doubt many will be looking forward to visiting their favourite beer gardens.

The Eagle and Child, in Ramsbottom, was named in the big list – coming in at 21st.

The pub, in Whalley Road, was praised for its edible beer garden where it grows its own fruit and vegetables.

The garden also boasts incredible views over Ramsbottom town centre and across to Peel Tower.

About the beer garden, Big 7 said: “Glen Duckett, the mastermind behind Ramsbottom’s Eagle + Child, had a different sort of vision for the one-acre of disused land when he acquired the pub back in 2011.

“The Edible Beer Garden. Today, you can order your tipple of choice outdoors and sit surrounded by pots and planters of veg, fruit and herbs all used to cook up a delicious storm in the kitchen.

“There’s also the Messy Play’ for kids under 10 too, with willow weaving workshops, basic horticulture training and lots of games.”

While some of Greater Manchester’s pubs reopened this week, ongoing maintenance work means the Eagle and Child is waiting until May 17 to reopen to customers.
