Minnesota students fail to meet test standards in three basic learning categoriesaccording to recently released state assessment data.
The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) on Thursday released new data that revealed more than half of students in the state are not meeting standards in math, reading and science. The test is administered by the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCA) and the alternative assessment, the Minnesota Test of Academic Skills (MTAS), which are statewide assessments that help districts measure student progress.
The results showed that 60.4% of students in Minnesota underperforms in science, with only 39.5% meeting state standards.

The results also found that in mathematics, 54.5% either do not meet or only partially meet the requirements for the subject.

Results reported that 45.5% of students meet standards on math assessments.
Additionally, 50.2% of students either do not meet or only partially meet the standards for reading, while approximately 49.8% meet the standards.

“Another dismal MCA test score report from @GovTimWalz’s education department – staggering 53.5% of Minnesota 3rd graders not reading on grade level,” House Republicans was published on X after the new data was released.
