HOUSTON (Nexstar) – A Texas mother has been charged after police said she accidentally shot her 5-year-old son while firing multiple times at an open dog in a Houston neighborhood over the weekend.
Angelia Mia Vargas, 24, has been charged with deadly conduct—discharging a gun in Saturday afternoon’s incident.
Detective J.J. of the Houston Police Department’s Major Assault and Family Violence Division. According to Hasley, at around 2:15 p.m., Vargas tried to shoot a loose dog running near 700 Dunham Road, firing three shots from a small-caliber pistol.
One bullet went into his son’s stomach.
According to police, the 5-year-old victim was taken to the district hospital in a stable condition. His wounds are not expected to be life-threatening.
Vargas was arrested in the incident and alleged that prosecutors determined that he fired on a public street and in the direction of two occupied houses.
dog owner told KPRC That 6-month-old boxer puppy had wounds to his hind legs, but he was not seriously injured.
The owner of the dog was issued a citation for letting the dog loose.
