George Clooney turned a months-old Donald Trump speech about him back against the former president.
Trump in July rumored that Clooney would “get out of politics and go back to television” after the actor wrote a New York Times op-ed urging President Joe Biden to abandon his re-election campaign. Biden ultimately withdrew from the race and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris, undoing Trump’s campaign and tactics in the process.
On Tuesday, Clooney spoke with late night TV host Jimmy Kimmel about his comment, the risk of writing it and the role it played in putting pressure on Biden’s decision.
And Clooney also responded to former reality TV personality Trump’s demand to “get out of politics and go back to television,” saying: “You know, I’ll come if he does.”
“It’s a trade-off I would make,” the actor added, drawing applause from Kimmel’s audience.
Earlier in the interview, Clooney said Biden did “something really extraordinary” with his decision to “let go of power.”
