a builder Conset made it to the semi-finals of the famous Screwfix Top Tradesperson 2021 competition.
Ian Watson, 51, has been in business for 35 years and owns IS Building & Roofing. He was selected after an initial application outlining how he demonstrated a genuine passion for the trade, is extremely talented, and has the will and determination to go above and beyond for his clients.
After a serious accident in 1997 that left him partially disabled, Ian is always determined to do more and takes great pride in his work. Locally respected, much of his work comes from local advice. He also recently mentored an apprentice, and after successfully passing his NVQ, Ian offered him a full-time job.
Ian, who is so excited to get to this stage, says: “I am very happy that I made it to the semi-finals of the competition. I hope to reach the national finals in September so I can show the judges how committed I am to my work and how I differ from others in the industry.
My can-do attitude, which is something I think passed down to my apprentices, has served me well during my time in the construction industry and I hope that’s something that will come before the judges.”
Ian will join more than 30 semi-finalists during the interview phase with Screwfix representatives to take part in a two-day virtual final event in September.
The winner will be crowned during Screwfix LIVE and will take home the biggest prize package of £20,000 consisting of technology, tools and education.
Screwfix Customer and Director of Digital Simon Jackson said: “All of our semi-finalists are a great example of the nation’s artisans doing their best to support their local communities and pursue careers in commerce. Of the many entries, our semi-finalists have done incredibly well to get to this point. I wish everyone the best of luck until this stage of the competition and I look forward to meeting our national finalists in September!”
