We hate to revive you this. But it is for the greater good. Remember the brutal, bloody opening of 2018 Avengers: Infinity War? It’s how we lost our beloved home valley, Idris Elba’s strong porter of Asgard, at the big purple hands of Thanos.
We are still mourning the loss of Heimdall. So, of course, when we interviewed Elba for our new edition of “Explain This” –on the occasion of his cover story with Esquire– we asked him if there was the slightest chance that the Norse hero would return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Fortunately, it seems that Elba is well aware of the new rules of the superhero game, where anything and everything can happen.
“Well, here’s the thing,” says Elba. “Again, anything can happen in the Marvel universe. Heimdall is a god, and hey, I would always bring that character back. He’s one of my favorites.”
There is your good news for the day. Be sure to stay tuned for the rest of the video, where Elba talks about his brief moment The Office, briefly addresses the mood of Knuckles Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and his ever-evolving music career. Not to mention, Elba discusses the Marvel vs. DC rivalry, as well as the possibility that he will one day play Superman – what we can all agree on is something we’d like to be green-lighted on, stat.
“Listen, at this intersection I passed that moment,” he says. “But that said, anything is possible in the world, that’s my belief. So I would definitely consider the idea of playing Superman, of course.”
