OAKLAND — In a plea deal, a local pimp allegedly caught pistol-whipping a woman in an area known for prostitution will receive 10 years in state prison, while his suspected escape ticket will be sentenced to probation and court-ordered parenting classes, records show.
Clarence “C-Money” Brown III, 29, pleaded no contest to trafficking and will be sentenced Aug. 29 to 10 years in prison, according to court records detailing the plea agreement. His co-defendant, 34-year-old Brittany Rivera, also pleaded no contest to accessory after the fact and will receive two years of probation on the same day.
Brown and Rivera pleaded no contest within two weeks of being charged, an unusually quick resolution for a case of this magnitude.
Brown was charged in connection with this with an attack on May 30 near International Boulevard and 13th Avenue in Oakland, an area known as a hangout for sex workers. Undercover officers in Oakland were conducting surveillance when they reportedly saw Brown hit a woman with a gun and hold the gun to her head. He then allegedly threw her into the door of a liquor store and fled to a 2013 BMW, where a Rivera was waiting.
Police say they have found text messages between Brown and Rivera in which they discussed recruiting the woman Brown assaulted into prostitution. Rivera later allegedly told police she tried to calm the situation and stop the attack from happening.
Brown was barred from possessing guns in part because of a 2018 vehicular manslaughter conviction stemming from a tragic 2017 crash that claimed the lives of Brown’s 5-year-old daughter, Neveah Brown, and Brown’s friend, 23. Dion Christy, according to court records and media reports. He was later sentenced to four years in state prison.
