As Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck navigate their divorce filing, details are emerging about how Affleck’s alleged mood swings affected the couple’s relationship.
The 55-year-old “Jenny from the Block” singer reportedly put a lot of energy into trying helping her 52-year-old husband get through his darker periodsreported People Magazine, citing unnamed sources.
“She spent a lot of time making sure Ben was happy and had everything he needed,” a source said. “The way she cared for him was almost childish. Friends constantly reminded her that she is not responsible for his feelings. He is very moody and dark at times. Jennifer appreciates life in a different way. She is very grateful for everything.”
The couple, who rekindled their romance in 2021 after calling off their first engagement in 2004, officially split when Lopez filed for divorce on Aug. 20, citing “irreconcilable differences.” The date of their separation was later given as April 26.
The difference in their personalities also contributed to their marital difficulties, said another source, who claims that Lopez is more comfortable in public and socializing, while Affleck is more of an introvert and prefers to stay at home.
The “Air” actor was also said to have mood swings with “big highs and big lows” which caused tension in their marriage. “He doesn’t understand how his bad mood affects people around him. It’s just not fun to be around that kind of negativity,” an insider explained.
Since the split, Affleck has been linked to Kathleen “Kick” Kennedy, daughter of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. However, a source close to Affleck dismissed the rumors, saying it’s unlikely the two even know each other.
For her part, Lopez is “relieved” by her decision to file for divorce, according to a source close to the actress. Those in her inner circle reportedly believe it was the right decision.
