CHICAGO – On a night that was already going badly for the Yankees, the Jazz gave Chisholm Jr. them something else to worry about.
Two innings after diving headfirst into home plate to score a run, Chisholm was replaced by a pinch-hitter when he left the game against the White Sox with a left elbow at Guaranteed Rate Field on Monday.
He will undergo imaging on Tuesday, the team announced.
Chisholm entered the plate leading off with his left hand, with his left arm/shoulder appearing to take some of the brunt of the tag from catcher Korey Lee.
Before it was clear Chisholm was injured on the play, it had been the highlight of an otherwise dreary night for the Yankees.
Chisholm singled and stole second with two outs before taking third on a pitch to Anthony Volpe, who hit a grounder to the hole at shortstop.
Chisholm never stopped running around third base and dove into home just before the tag to pull the Yankees within 4-2.
Chisholm, who was 2-for-3 on the night, played third base for the next two innings before being pinch-hit for by Ben Rice in the seventh.
