Three takeaways from Jets 20-17 win over Commanders on Saturday to kick off the preseason:
1. Joe Tippmann was the only Jets starter who played in Saturday’s preseason game.
It is a sign that despite what they sayThe Jets are concerned about his snaps.
Tippmann played the first two series against the Commanders and didn’t have any bad snaps.
It will be interesting to see if the Jets continue to play him in preseason situations where other starters aren’t around.
2. The Jets think they have a very strong back room and the two rookies had good moments on Saturday.
Braelon Allen had runs of 24 and 16 yards and Isaiah Davis had a 24-yard reception.
The two beginners can be nice complementary pieces to Breece Hall.
3. The Jets didn’t use any defensive starters, but their second unit should have looked better against Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels.
They carved out an 11-play, 70-yard drive that included a 42-yard completion by Daniels.
Expectations are high for the Jets’ starting defense, but depth is an issue.
