Kamala Harris is the strong favorite to win the first presidential debate against Donald Trumpaccording to a leading bookmaker.
The two candidates will face off in Philadelphia on Tuesday night, with recent nationwide polls showing that they are within the margin of error.
Star Sports offers odds of 1/3 (75 percent) on Harris winning the debate, compared to 2/1 (33.3 percent) for Trump. The bookmaker defines win as “the candidate with the highest percentage in Ipsos/538’s first ‘who performed better’ poll.”
To talk to Newsweeksaid Star Sports political betting analyst William Kedjanyi: “The cat debate is crucial for Kamala Harrisgiven her lower level of recognition compared to Donald Trump.
“With 28% of voters indicating they need to know more about her, according to a new New York Times poll and limited major media appearances since becoming vice president, this is an important opportunity for her to define her platform and appeal to undecided voters.
“Tonight’s debate should provide a fascinating insight into what the final weeks of the US presidential election may look like, ahead of the election in November.”
He added: “We make Harris the 1/3 favorite to emerge victorious in the televised debate and is ranked higher than Trump in the IPSOS poll that will follow their meeting in Philadelphia.
“Trump is 2/1 to impress voters and be declared the winner of his first showdown with VP.”
