LeBron James appears to walk off the court with about five minutes remaining after the Lakers lose to the Suns in Game 5.
James is very supportive of his teammates, so let’s not rush to judge the 36-year-old for getting a head start on his postgame routine. Heck, if the Lakers are going to have any chance of getting back in this series, they’re going to need James at 100 percent and probably a few years removed.
Los Angeles training staff have a tough job on their hands. At this point in the season, every team is battling with injuries, but the Lakers’ best two players — and two of the top talents in all of basketball — are clearly ill. Anthony Davis certainly didn’t even play in Game 5.
The video of James leaving the court has gone viral on social media for all the wrong reasons.
NBA playoffs: LeBron James is getting plenty of flak
If James left the court early, he likely had reasons of his own. But one can understand that the average basketball fan doesn’t need much ammunition to make fun of King.
Vogel explained James’ plight, and he was blessed by the Lakers coaching staff. Of course, no one is going to tell the best player of their generation to be in Vogel’s shoes.
If LeBron answers in Game 6, the Lakers can put it all behind them. If not, maybe we have some questions to ask.
