No one was injured, according to the emergency services.
Lightning during a severe thunderstorm sparked a house fire in East Sandwich Monday afternoon, fire officials said.
The Sandwich Fire Department responded to the report of a fire at 17 Mill Road around 12:55 p.m., according to a statement.
“The fire was caused by an ignition during a severe thunderstorm that passed through the city,” the department said.
According to officials, the resident of the residence got out of the house with his dog with the help of his neighbors and reported the fire. The damage from the fire was limited to the exterior of the house and electrical components inside the home.
A second home down the road sustained minor electrical damage related to the lightning strike, according to the fire department.
No one was injured.
Strong storms swept through southern New England on Monday, in some places hail the size of golf balls, according to to the National Weather Service.
