A man from Long Island has admitted to fatally stabbing his wife in front of her 15-year-old son, authorities said Tuesday.
Ryszard Murawski, 44, of Lindenhurst, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the death of Wioleta Murawski earlier this year.
According to court records, the couple’s teenage son called 911 just after 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 3 to report that his father had stabbed his mother before fleeing the scene in a black GMC truck.
The teenager told authorities he heard his mother screaming when he returned home from a friend’s house that night. When he ran to the backyard to check on her, he saw his father stab his mother with a large, serrated knife.
When the son tried to intervene, his mother managed to break free. She was able to “stumble across the street”, but collapsed with the couple’s son by her side.
According to prosecutors, the teenager asked 911 dispatchers for help “as he desperately tried to save his mother’s life.”
She was rushed to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Suffolk County police followed Ryszard Murawski’s vehicle and attempted to stop him but he refused. A high-speed police chase ensued, with multiple units pursuing Murawski for more than seven miles, officials said.
It was him arrested after losing control of his vehicle and crashing into the side of a building.
Murawski pleaded guilty Tuesday in Suffolk County Court before Judge Karen M. Wilutis. He is due back in court on October 17, when he is expected to be sentenced to 22 years to life in prison.
