A male LSU cheerleader had the Internet buzzing after he appeared to interfere after the Tigers’ matchdown in their eventual 29-26 win over Ole Miss on Saturday.
With less than two minutes left in the game and LSU trailing, 23-16, Tigers tight end Mason Taylor eluded Ole Miss defender Trey Washington and took it to the house at Tiger Stadium to tie the game.
After Taylor reached the end zone, a male cheerleader wearing an LSU uniform top was seen extending his arms and appeared to shove Washington as he crashed on the sideline.
The cheerleader may have been overly excited as he celebrated LSU’s dramatic moment against the Rebels.
It’s also possible that the cheerleader extended her arms to protect herself when Washington ran full speed in his direction.
The internet still had a field day with the now-viral moment on X.
“Get that man at linebacker. Textbook tackle,” one person wrote.
“What would he do, let the player take his knees out? lol,” said another.
“Lmao. Defending yourself from harm”, someone wrote.
Others said he was protecting his cheerleaders on the play.
LSU won the game in overtime.
The Tigers (5-1) face the Razorbacks (4-2) in Arkansas on Saturday, while Ole Miss (5-2) has a bye week before hosting the Oklahoma Sooners (4-2) on Oct. 26.
