LISBON, Maine (AP) – A Maine man who dialed 911 while flowing into the Androscoggin River survived the traumatic incident, officials said.
Lisbon Fire Chief Nate LeClaire said Connor O’Reilly, 21, of Topsham, had his cellphone with a lifejacket on him as he swam in the river after his boat sank.
The 911 call helped rescuers find her quickly before the hypothermia began. The water temperature in the area was close to 50 degrees.
A rescue boat located O’Reilly and took her to shore, where she was assessed and allowed to return home. His sunken fishing boat will remain in the river until it can be saved.
