Authorities in New Hampshire are investigating after a worker was killed in an explosion at a Weares compost supply company.
A 27-year-old New Hampshire man was killed Wednesday in an explosion at a compost material company where he worked.
Zachary Spooner of Windsor, NH, was killed in the explosion, which happened around 2 p.m. at Haynes Mulch, located at 21 B and B Lane in Weare, according to local police.
“Upon arrival it was apparent that the incident occurred inside a building and a deceased victim was discovered at the scene,” Weare police said in a news release.
The New Hampshire State Medical Examiner identified Spooner as the victim Thursday. The office determined the cause of death was an accident with blunt force trauma.
The New Hampshire Union Leader reported that Spooner was an employee of the company and the father of a 1-year-old child.
“This is one of the nicest guys in the world. The world has a big hole in it today, no doubt about it,” Spooner’s neighbor Laurie Hunt told Union leader. “He is a young father, but also one of the most generous, giving and wise people I have met.”
The fire service and police are investigating the cause of the explosion. Anyone with information about the incident can contact Captain Frank Hebert of the Weare Police Department by calling 603-529-7755 or email [email protected].
