The man had an active warrant for his arrest for a similar crime, police said a statement.
Officers responded to reports of the crime at Coes Pond on Wednesday morning. Three men saw the suspect touching the child inappropriately and interrupted the incident, according to police. After the suspect tried to flee, the men followed him to his car and called police, the department said.
“The suspect has been the subject of several complaints from residents for similar incidents and had an active warrant for his arrest for a similar crime,” Worcester police said.
Worcester Police arrested the suspect on his previous warrant and issued new charges for this incident. Because the situation involves a minor, the department said it will not release any additional information.
