OAKLAND — A 55-year-old man has been charged with pimping after police at a cargo operation allegedly saw him drop off a suspected sex worker, court records show.
Qualik Tuliva allegedly pulled up in a Mercedes Benz onto International Boulevard in Oakland and dropped off a 22-year-old woman, who continued to try to flag down cars. The Mercedes stopped in the area some distance from the woman, the police said.
The woman was arrested after offering an undercover officer sexual favors for money, police said. Tuliva was arrested a short time later. Police say they found more evidence that confirmed he was her pimp.
Tuliva was held in lieu of $160,000 bail — and briefly transferred to the Los Angeles Detention Center, where he has a prior burglary conviction — but is now out of jail, court records show. An Alameda County judge has ordered him to stay away from high-prostitution areas and not transport anyone other than a family member in his vehicle, court records show.
