The reigning Premier League champions Man City are reportedly ‘losing’ in a Brazilian striker race.

Pep Guardiola knows that a new striker is needed to keep the club struggling over the next few years. They had a tight bond with Harry Kane during the summer but they couldn’t get him away from Tottenham.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has set the British player’s price at £160m. Man City’s best bid of around £100m was far from accepted.

There are a number of alternatives being explored by the club. One is Dusan Vlahovic, a Fiorentina bag dealer. Serbian may continue next summer after rejecting a new contract offer.

Erling Haaland is of course on Man City’s radar. He has scored 70 goals in 69 games since joining Borussia Dortmund in January 2020.

Citizens hope to use their existing contacts with Haaland to secure a deal. The player’s father, Alf-Inge, played 45 games for Manchester City between 2000-2003. Haaland was also spotted wearing the City jersey as a teenager.

However, the race is quite crowded for the Norwegian. English rivals Man Utd and Chelsea also want to take him from Dortmund. European heavyweights like Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.

A cheaper player Man City could turn to instead is Internacional’s Yuri Alberto. The Brazilian is certainly not as big of a name as he has an impressive record ahead of goal.

The 20-year-old player managed to score 18 goals in all competitions last season. This form has made him one of Internacional’s most valuable stars.

sports witness, citing news in the Brazilian press, offers an update on Alberto’s future. Italian giants claim that AC Milan is ahead of City in the autograph race.

Rossoneri has already made a ‘verbal agreement’ with Alberto for his move. Now they need to arrange a fee with their club.

The striker’s release price currently stands at a staggering 80 million euros (58 million pounds). Internacional initially resisted for this amount, but has now reduced its demands.

They will only consider bids of €20m (£17m) or more. The news means City must act fast if they want to sign Alberto.

Man City will rival Bayern Munich for two players

Italian outlet transfer market report this City ready to fight Bayern for two players.

Guardiola led the Bavarians to three consecutive league titles between 2013 and 2016. Now he wants to compete with them for a Dutch playmaker and a talented winger.

Both City and Bayern are reportedly interested in Frenkie De Jong. The 24-year-old has been one of Barcelona’s top players for several tough years.

There is no doubt that Guardiola will add quality to his midfield. It will take a big bid to get him out of Catalonia.

But as Barça’s dire financial situation is widely documented, the Catalan giants may be forced into a sale.

The other name on City and Bayern’s wish list is Antony. The 21-year-old player currently plays for Ajax. He has scored four goals in ten games so far in this campaign and looks set for a bright future.

Despite having a history of selling to Europe’s biggest clubs, Ajax’s value is uncertain.
