A man in his 50s died Saturday after suffering a medical emergency while hiking in Albany, New Hampshire, authorities said.
The 58-year-old from Montreal was nearly 2 miles from the trailhead on the Piper Trail on Mount Chocorua when the incident took place around 11:30 a.m., according to to the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department. His family members and hikers passing by with medical experience tried to provide help.
Conservation officials, members of the Conway Fire Department, the US Forest Service, Lakes Region Search and Rescue and the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office responded to the call for help.
Officials said the man lost consciousness several times and CPR was administered for over an hour. These life-saving efforts were ultimately unsuccessful.
The man’s name is being withheld by authorities while his family is notified of his death, officials said.
