A man sitting in the passenger seat of a car was shot by someone in another car early Monday in the United Center neighborhood, according to the Chicago Police Department.
The department said the shooting happened in the 200 block of South Ashland Avenue around 1:40 a.m.
After the shooting, the cars continued on Ashland Avenue and stopped “as each vehicle hit a building” in the 1800 block of Ashland Avenue, which is more than a mile south of where the shooting happened, according to police.
The people in the shooter’s car fled the scene of the accident. The victim, a 33-year-old man, was taken to Ströger Hospital in good condition. He had a gunshot wound to the torso, according to the police.
No one was in custody as of 2:50 a.m., and the circumstances surrounding the incident were being investigated by Chicago police detectives.
