Singer Mariah Carey returned to social media — and work — on Sunday after a “tough couple of weeks” after the death of her mother and sister on the same day last month.
“Back to work. It’s been a rough couple of weeks, but I appreciate everyone’s love and support so much and I can’t wait to see my fans in China and Brazil,” Carey wrote in a video of her rehearsing for planned international shows . “Love you!”
The 55-year-old pop star carelessly sang a slower version of the 2005 song “It’s Like That” and told fans: “See you soon, China.”
Carey’s post came about two weeks after she revealed on August 27 that her mother Patricia Carey and sister Alison Carey had both died the previous weekend, and both on the same day.
“My heart is broken that I have lost my mother this past weekend,” Carey told the Daily News in a statement at the time. “Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.”
Carey is preparing for two shows in China on September 15 and 16, followed by two more in Brazil on September 20 and 21, as part of the Rock in Rio music festival.
The singer had an up-and-down, intense relationship with her mother and was estranged from his sister.
“I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mother before she passed,” Carey said in her statement following the deaths of her mother and sister. “I appreciate everyone love and support and respect for my integrity during this impossible time.”
