Several people suffered burns after a deep fryer exploded at the grocery chain in Plymouth.
Several people were injured, including an 11-month-old baby, when a deep fryer sent out an explosion of hot oil at a Market Basket on Thursday, the Plymouth Fire Department said.
Around 6:45 p.m., the Plymouth Fire Department responded to Market Basket on Commerce Way, the department said in a statement. A deep fryer in the store’s kitchen had spewed hot oil onto the ceiling and as far as 15 feet from the fryer, the department said.
Firefighters sealed off the kitchen and evaluated a 79-year-old man, the child and a 31-year-old store employee for burns. The 79-year-old was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston with severe burns, while the other two were taken to South Shore Hospital, according to the department.
Market Basket did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
