A good Samaritan shopper found the cash in a Shrewsbury Market Basket car park and returned it to its rightful owner.
A Shrewsbury shopper who discovered an envelope containing a hefty sum of cash is being praised for his honesty after handing the money over to its rightful owner.
According to a Worcester Telegram & Gazette ReportVan Ha noticed her envelope containing $12,000 in cash was missing after returning home from shopping at Shrewsbury Market Basket.
She and her nephew, Truong Huynh, rushed back to the store and met manager Dan Desfosses, who offered to look through the surveillance video to find the envelope. But the pictures did not shed light on where her money was.
The couple went to their vehicle to leave when Desfosses returned to the store. There, Desfosses noticed a regular shopper known as Skip standing at the service counter with the envelope in hand, the T&G reported. They managed to catch Ha and Huynh before they left — and returned the money.
Huynh told the store, “We were so excited that we went straight and went home without thinking about it. Then we wanted to thank Skip, so we went back to Market Basket with a reward.”
The family presented Skip with $300 as a show of gratitude for his honesty.
“It was just so very nice,” Desfosses told the T&G. “I don’t know many people who would have done that – I mean, just finding a bank account envelope, no name on it, you know.”
