To improve water quality and habitat by restoring the river to its natural state while reducing the risk of flooding, the state and the US Army Corps of Engineers recommended removing nine dams along the Fox River through the far western suburbs.
But residents who want to keep the river as it is have pushed back against the Army Corps’ plan. Local officials have expressed concern about how it would affect drinking water, sewage treatment and recreation.
