Bachelor star Matt James says he is now “following” his relationship with his ex-girlfriend, Rachel McConnell, when his racist past was revived online.
“I’ve seen Rachel several times,” he told People. “I’m not following any relationship right now. I said I was going to focus on my relationship with him and that meant concentrating on it. “
Rachel apologized in February for her pictures at the college’s Antebellum-themed party in 2013. He said he “needs to learn how to be an anti-activist.”
Matt threw her after calling her while taking pictures online and she doesn’t understand why she was upset.
‘Graduation’ is Matt’s season
“If you don’t understand the problem in 2018, there’s a lot in me that you don’t understand,” he said after the Rose ceremony. “It’s just as easy as that.”
He added, “When I questioned our relationship, it was in your context that you don’t fully understand my blackness and what it means to be a black American and what it would mean for our kids when I saw things floating around on the internet.” And my heart was broken because I thought this was the last conversation. I didn’t sign up for this conversation and I knew I had to take a step back to keep you on this topic. That’s what you have to do, and that’s why we can’t have a relationship. ”
