Everything is bigger in Texas – even the jackpots!
A Mega Millions ticket holder won Tuesday’s $800 million jackpot at a gas station outside Houston, breaking a streak of more than 20 draws without a jackpot winner.
The winning numbers were 1, 2, 16, 24, 66 and the Gold Mega Ball 6.
The ticket was purchased at the Murphy USA 8848 gas station on Highway 90A in Sugar Land, Texas, according to the state lottery.
The business, which will receive $1 million for selling the jackpot-winning ticket, is across the street from Constellation Field, home of the Sugar Land Space Cowboys – the Triple-A affiliate of the Houston Astros and 21 miles southwest of downtown Houston.
It’s the 15th time a jackpot-winning Mega Millions ticket has been sold in Texas, and the first since October 6, 2023, when Blue Yucca Trust won the $361 million prize.
The odds of winning Mega Millions are an astronomical 1 in 302,575,350.
The lucky winner can claim $800 million in annual payouts or opt for a one-time payout of $404.2 million.
Tuesday’s winner marks the third time the Mega Millions grand prize has been won in 2024, behind the price of $1.13 billion sold on March 26 and $552 million on June 4.
The next drawing — Friday the 13th — returns to $20 million.
The biggest Mega Millions jackpot ever won, worth $1.62 billionwas sold in a Publix supermarket in Neptune Beach, Florida in August 2023.
The historic ticket was claimed by Saltines Holdings LLC. who chose to claim the one-time payment of $794,248,882.00.
