Meghan Markle debuts as an author of children’s books

Meghan Markle she can add a new hit to her resume: author of children’s books.

Random House Children’s Books announced Tuesday that the Duchess of Sussex will publish her first book, called The Bench, on June 8th.

“The bank started as a poem I wrote for my husband on Father’s Day, the month after Archie’s birth,” Meghan said in a statement shared with HuffPost. The book has been illustrated by award-winning author and illustrator The Last Stop on Market Street Christian Robinson.

“Christian put on beautiful and ethereal watercolor illustrations that capture the warmth, joy and comfort of the relationship between parents and children from all walks of life,” Meghan added.

“This representation was particularly important to me and Christian and I worked closely to represent this special bond through an inclusive lens. My hope is that ‘The Bench’ resonates with all families, regardless of makeup, as much as it does with mine. ”

Meghan is no stranger to the publishing world. In 2018, the Duchess of Sussex wrote the progress of a cookbook called Together: our community cuisine, created by some of the women in Hubb community cooking, affected by 2017 Grenfell Tower Fire.
