A Minnesota man said he “lost” his head when he allegedly stabbed his wife of more than six decades to death with a kitchen knife – leaving her “oozing” blood from her abdomen.
Rodney Andersen, 85, was arrested and charged Thursday in the brutal attack on his wife, Janet Louise Andersen, 83, at their Annandale home.
Police found the woman lying on her back in the kitchen, “bleeding profusely” and “oozing” blood from multiple stab wounds to her abdomen, it shows legal documents.
“I guess I lost my head,” Andersen told Annandale police who responded to the bloody scene.
Andersen said he and his wife of 66 years had a “big argument” early Thursday morning and admitted to police he stabbed her but wasn’t sure if she was still alive.
The husband had called authorities at 9:54 a.m. and waited outside his front door for them to arrive, according to court documents.
Responding officers saw Andersen on the steps of his home on Knollwood Street West shaking his head with his hands. They then discovered a bloody knife in the sink.
Andersen told police the couple, who had been married since 1958, “argued constantly” and that he “guessed” he took the gun from the butcher block in the kitchen just before they stabbed her.
He admitted to stabbing his wife at least once in the “middle” somewhere, according to the complaint, but did not know what type of force he used.
His wife’s body was still warm when paramedics arrived but was pronounced dead at the scene.
Andersen was charged with second-degree murder and faces up to 40 years in prison if convicted, court documents show. He is currently being held on $1 million bail in the Wright County Jail.
His next court date is Thursday.
